The title of this painting has a double meaning - the main figure represents Eve, the mother of humanity, and is also set in fall twilight (i.e., an "autumn eve"). She is an object of desire and a giver of life, but beauty and birth both end in winter death.
I used thick texture paste for the tree stump on which Eve sits and a Venetian method for the figure and background, building up layers and layers of thin glazes to achieve the resulting autumnal glow.
