Bird of Paradise - 24X30 acrylic on canvas
This guy is the consummate hunter and his paradise is a wetland filled with sushi. He remains perfectly still while scanning for prey, but he can strike like lightning to grab a fish or a frog. The male and female great blue herons look almost exactly the same. On average, males are a little larger with longer ornamental plumes, but these distinctions are so slight and variable that it's hard to see the difference, even when members of a pair are together. And pairs are together only when they are on the nest. That's where they do their courtship and all their interactions around raising their young. When they fly off to find food for themselves and their young, they go separately, not together.
I take joy in knowing that my work and who I am reaches out and touches others. I'm greatly inspired by color, especially bright and dramatic colors. Colors don't merely talk to me, they SHOUT. I believe that art has its own special language. It can cut right to a basic human emotion, hold on tight and even cause one to react in some way. So, when a piece of art speaks to you, Listen!
