Macro capture of this wonderful plant in my personal garden. This was one of the first pictures I took with a newly acquired macro lens for my Canon A-1 and my first attempt at doing this on film. This plant has striking, deep blue flowers that can almost look purple in certain lighting. This photo highlights the very narrow depth of field when shooting this macro lens wide open. Instead of every bloom in focus, some are out of focus which gives the image a dream like property while still emphasizing the deep blue color.
My goal in capturing this image was to highlight the plants color and texture which is very smooth and soft looking. The use of film added another texture of grain to the image that counters the smoothness of the blooms and adds a vintage esthetic. Additionally, the film stock of choice renders colors pleasantly without being too saturated.
Film stock used was Kodak Portra 400.
